Arthipura is a small village near Maddur in Mandya district. It is located 5 km south of Kokkare Bellur. It has two small hillocks, Shravanabetta and Chikkabetta or Kanakagiri. Last year, archaeologists from ASI Bangalore found Jain temple complexes belonging to the earlier western Ganga dynasty. These temple complexes have granite Adishtanas and brick walls.
Hundreds of devotees from various parts of the State participated in the special Sukla Paksha Maha Ashtami Homam performed at the Sri Jagannatha Perumal temple at Nathan Koil near here on Sunday. The temple is one of the 108 Vaishnavite Divya Desams adored by the Alwars.
Last-minute arrangements are under way for the Attukal Pongala to be held here on March 11. The traditional hearth in front of the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Thiruvananthapuram will be lit by 10.45 a.m., and the Nivedyam will be at 2.15 p.m.
The stage is set for the three-day annual Mahasivarathri jatara at the ancient Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Vemulawada of Rajanna-Sircilla district from February 23 to 25. The festival is being conducted for the first time after formation of Rajanna-Sircilla district and Minister for Municipal Administration and IT K.
