Hundreds of devotees from various parts of the State participated in the special Sukla Paksha Maha Ashtami Homam performed at the Sri Jagannatha Perumal temple at Nathan Koil near here on Sunday. The temple is one of the 108 Vaishnavite Divya Desams adored by the Alwars.

On the day, special abishekam was performed to the deities of the Nathan Koil temple, hailed also as Nandipura Vinnagaram.

Legends aver that goddess Mahalakshmi performed penance at this place to join Lord Mahavishnu and the Ashtami Homam for the presiding goddess of the shrine Sri Shenbagavalli Thayar being performed here is considered very auspicious by the devotees.

The vedic pundits and the priests also performed Sri Suktha Homam, Sri Sudarshana Homam and Sri Dhanvantri Homam during the day.

The Jagannatha Perumal Kainkarya Sabha and temple administration had made the arrangements for the event.
