Lord Siva sent his Vahanam Nandi to teach a lesson to this demon. As instructed Nandi fought with the asura, defeated and thrown him into the sea. The demon did a strict penance for Lord Siva and acquired the Sula from the Siva. With these powers he started troubling, Lord Siva sent Nandi to kill this demon. This time, Nandi was not able to succeed as the demon holds Lord Siva's Sula, Nand received injuries in the battle. This angered Siva took the form of Agora Murthi and opened his third eye to turn the demon into ashes.
